The Fox & Hounds Hotel & Restaurant

Little bit run down and in need of some money spent on it , but staff was lovely food was fantastic showers hot and very forceful. Overall great place for the money and would definitely stop here again if in this part of Dartmoor. Thanks .

Stopped at The Fox and Hounds for some lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the place has a nice, relaxed pub-like atmosphere. The food was decent, nothing overly fancy, but tasty and satisfying. All in all, quite all right really, a comfortable spot for a casual meal and a friendly chat.

A 1700's gem on an inconspicuous Devon country road, this authentic English hotel is filled with history, hospitality and welcoming charm. Don't expect a 5-star stop but a place that has been built up and loved for centuries - it is all in the detail wherever you look. Recommend the hearty beef-ale pie for lunch & anything on the breakfast menu. Clean and filling food. Freshly carpeted and painted the hotel is clean and filled with English oak furniture. Delightful! Kelly as front of house made al the difference. nothing was too much trouble. Thank you!

Good base for walking on Dartmoor. Good menu selection and good quality food. Has camping facilities

Excellent pub/hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent, our compliments to the chef. We camp here a lot in our campervan so can't comment on the rooms but my friend & hubby have stayed in them and they were very happy. The camping shower block is always clean & the loo roll never runs out . Fab location, you can walk on the moor, walk to Lydford, and walk or cycle on the granite way (goes Lydford to Okehampton). There id also a bus stop outside to Tavistock which takes you via Brent Tour.

We stayed here for one night with our dog. First of all the staff are absolutely lovely, they really made us feel at home. The room was good sized, warm, beds firm but comfortable, tea and coffee in room so that's a bonus and the bathroom had a bath (room no. 2). We only have 2 very small gripes about the room - the bed was 2 singles put together, but they were not zipped together so I kept sleeping in the crack with the zip digging into me (I'm sure this could be solved) secondly, if you are a light sleeper like me, ask for a room away from the road, I had the window open at night because of the heating system it was very warm and the traffic was a little noisy on the country road. The breakfast included was great, again excellent customer service, good atmosphere at the bar, but I can imagine it being quite quiet at times, pool table, location for hiking 10/10! we would stay again! At first, we had some reservations about staying overnight at a property located in the middle of open fields. To our pleasant surprise, the place turned out to be absolutely exceptional. The room was large, clean, and spacious, with a beautiful view of the valley. The hotel staff were very friendly, courteous, and always willing to help. In the evening, we dined at the hotel’s restaurant, which serves homemade, carefully prepared dishes. We particularly recommend the pork cheeks and the venison – the meat was incredibly tender, flavorful, and simply melted in the mouth. The only minor drawback was that the portions could have been slightly larger. In summary, the hotel far exceeded our expectations, and we will be happy to return here should we find ourselves in the area again.

Lovely Traditional Pub, service was excellent, and the food.. beyond excellent. Fresh vegetables and proper chips! Delicious. 5 stars
